Mindshift: the world is round, not flat
Did you know that people used to think the world was flat and that if you sailed toward the horizon, you’d drop off the edge into an awful abyss?
Highly intelligent people at that time REALLY believed this. It was the few brave men (and don’t forget Queen Isabella who financed Columbus’s journey) who believed otherwise. They knew that if they sailed toward the horizon, they would NOT fall off the edge of the earth, in fact, they were excited to discover new worlds, new people, new possibilities.
But before the great explorers got to that point, they had to do a MINDSHIFT. They had to shift the way they thought about the earth. They had to shift their thinking in order to succeed.
That’s what I’m asking you to do: shift your thinking in order to succeed with your Social Networking. Connect with like-minded people and create communities that engage in conversation and collaborate. Create movements that solve problems and crises. Help a non-profit learn how to use Social Media to raise awareness and raise funds. Heck, help 10 non-profits in the next 10 weeks.
If you haven’t already embraced the fact that you’ll reach more people through less people; that you’ll create deeper connections in less time; that you’ll achieve your goals in quicker time than you could have ever imagined—I’m asking you now to fully embrace this thinking.
Social Media marketing and Social Networking is our world and it’s not flat anymore: it’s round. Yes! It’s true!
Leave behind that old way of getting the word out about your grand opening. Don’t waste your money and time with the old way of advertising your new product. Instead, set up outposts in the new frontier of Social Media marketing: set up your LinkedIn group to attract your tribe; set up your Facebook page to attract your fans and friends; set up your Twitter profile to attract and engage your tribe who’ll begin to tell others. Pretty soon, (REALLY soon) you’ll have all the business you can handle.
